About Me
I owe my start in photography to Jenny Anderson. Jenny was the cutest girl in high school. She wore her blonde hair in a ponytail that bounced around like a playful puppy. She energetically worked for the school newspaper and year book, and she always carried a camera. Jenny was out of my league by lightyears, so the only way I could get to know her was if I volunteered at the school newspaper too. I eventually became friends with Jenny (yes, the dreaded friend zone) but that was OK, because it was through her that I found my true love: photography.
As as soon as I first picked up the school issued Chinon CM3, I was hooked. This was back in 1982. If you are old enough to remember that far back, then you realize this was long before digital cameras. Back then we used something called film to capture images. I am not complaining. On the contrary, I consider myself lucky to have learned photography on film. Developing film into negatives, projecting the negative onto photographic paper, and then developing the paper was a lot of time-consuming work, but it made you consider hard the exposure settings, focus, lighting and composition before you even thought to release the shutter. The modern practice of taking hundreds of digital images, hoping that one might turn out good, was not a viable option back in the film days.
As as much as I treasure my film education, I never want to go back to those days. My Nikon D810 is just too cool. The miracle of immediately after clicking the shutter being able to view, edit and share a photo to thousands of people all around the world is something a lot of people take for granted.
